How to send a Chrome tab to your phone or share it

Published

A browser tab flying from a laptop to a phone

In short: Right-click the tab and select Send to your devices, then pick your phone. Both devices must be signed in to Chrome with the same Google Account.[1] To share with someone else, use More > Cast, save, and share.[1]

You found the recipe on your laptop, but you'll cook with your phone. Emailing yourself a link works. Chrome has a quicker way.

Send a tab to your own devices

First, sign in to Chrome with the same Google Account on both devices.[1] Then:

  1. Go to the tab you want to send.
  2. Select More > Cast, save, and share > Send to your devices. Or right-click the tab and pick the same option.[1]
  3. Select a device.

If notifications are on, your phone tells you a tab was shared, and the tab also opens automatically in Chrome there.[1]

Share with a QR code

Select More > Cast, save, and share > Create QR code. You can copy the link, download the code, or scan it with another device's camera.[1] Handy for a colleague's phone, or a device that isn't yours.

Share with someone else

Select More > Cast, save, and share and choose how you want to share the page.[1]

The limits

Close tabs without fear. Keeptab saves your tabs in one click, backs them up every hour and notes your open tabs every 5 minutes. Free for Chrome.

For the tabs you keep for yourself

Sending is great for one page. For the dozen tabs you'll come back to, Keeptab, our free Chrome extension, saves them as a list in a click and closes them.[2] Find any page again by word, date or site.[2]
