The OneTab alternative that never loses your tabs

Updated October 5, 2026

In short: Keeptab is a free Chrome tab manager that works like OneTab (one click saves all your tabs into a list) and adds what OneTab users miss most: automatic backups every hour, crash recovery every 5 minutes, a 30-day trash and an optional backup file that survives an uninstall. Your OneTab lists move over in one paste, with nothing to convert.

Why people look for a OneTab alternative

OneTab made a simple idea popular: close all your tabs into one list, reopen them later. The most common complaint in its reviews is just as simple: lists that disappear after a Chrome or extension update, with no backup to bring them back.

Keeptab keeps the same one-click habit and is built around one promise: never lose a tab. Every list is written, and read back, before a single tab closes.

How to move your OneTab lists to Keeptab

It takes about a minute. Keeptab reads OneTab's export format as it is.

  1. In OneTab, click Export / Import URLs.
  2. Select all the text in the export box (Ctrl+A, or Cmd+A on Mac) and copy it.
  3. Install Keeptab, open it, and go to Recovery.
  4. In the card From OneTab or a list of links, paste the text and click Import.

Every list comes back, with its titles. From that moment, the hourly backups protect them.

The format Keeptab accepts

One link per line, written URL | Title. An empty line starts a new list:

https://github.com | GitHub
https://www.wikipedia.org | Wikipedia

https://www.youtube.com | YouTube

Also accepted: plain links (one per line), Title | URL, Markdown [Title](URL) and Keeptab JSON files.

FAQ

Is Keeptab a free OneTab alternative?

Yes. Saving, backups, crash recovery, the trash, search and import are free. Only Keeptab Sync, which keeps your lists on all your computers, is a paid option.

Can I import my OneTab lists into Keeptab?

Yes. In OneTab, open Export / Import URLs, copy all the text, then paste it in Keeptab › Recovery › From OneTab or a list of links and click Import. Nothing to convert.

Will Keeptab lose my tabs after a Chrome update?

Keeptab keeps a full copy of your lists every hour (30 versions) and before every destructive action, so you can always go back. You can also turn on a daily backup file in Downloads/Keeptab that survives an uninstall.

Never lose a tab again

Keeptab saves your tabs in one click, backs them up every hour and notes your open tabs every 5 minutes. Free for Chrome.
