How to find a page you visited in Chrome history

Published

A magnifying glass over a long timeline of visited web pages

In short: Press Ctrl+H (⌘+Y on Mac) and type a word from the page title or site in the search bar.[2][1] Or type @history in the address bar, press Tab, then your keywords.[1] Chrome keeps the pages you visited in the last 90 days.[1]

You read the perfect article on Tuesday. You closed the tab. Now you remember one word of the title, maybe. Good news: that's usually enough.

  1. Press Ctrl+H (Mac: ⌘+Y), or select More > History > History.[2][1]
  2. Type a word from the title or the site name in the search bar at the top.[1]

2. Search from the address bar

Type @history, press Tab or Space, then a few keywords. Pick the page from the list.[1] No need to leave the tab you're on.

3. Browse by date

Remember when, not what? The History page lists your visits by date.[1] Scroll to that afternoon and the pages around it will jog your memory.

4. Browse by group

The By group tab sorts your browsing and searches into topics. Next to an item, More > Open all in new tab group reopens the whole research session at once.[1]

Tip: sensitive pages, like a health search, may be hidden from groups automatically. Search for them by name in the History page.[1]

The limits

Just closed the tab by mistake? Ctrl+Shift+T is faster.

Keep the pages, not just the trail

History is a trail of everything you opened. When a set of tabs matters, Keeptab, our free Chrome extension, saves them as a named list in a click, with no time limit.[3] Search your lists by word, date or site.[3]
